Measles, mumps, rubella virus vaccine, live
Indications/Uses
Simultaneous vaccination against measles, mumps & rubella in individuals ≥12 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC/IM 0.5 mL inj preferably in anterolateral area of thigh (in younger childn) & deltoid (in older childn, adolescents & adults).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Anaphylactic reactions to neomycin. Any febrile resp illness or other active febrile infection; active untreated TB. Immunosuppressive therapy (except in replacement therapy eg, for Addison's disease). Blood dyscrasias, leukemia, lymphomas or other malignant neoplasms affecting bone marrow or lymphatic system. Severely immunocompromised patients including those w/ AIDS/HIV; family history of congenital or hereditary immunodeficiency. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
History of convulsions, cerebral injury or other condition caused by fever; anaphylactic, anaphylactoid or other immediate reactions (eg, hives, swelling of mouth & throat, difficulty breathing, hypotension or shock) subsequent to egg ingestion. Evaluate for thrombocytopenia prior to initiation. HIV-infected patients. May result in temporary depression in tuberculin skin sensitivity. Lactation. Childn <6 mth (measles) & <12 mth (mumps & rubella).
Adverse Reactions
Burning, stinging at inj site; fever, rash or measles-like rash. Rarely, mild local reactions eg, erythema, induration, tenderness; sore throat, malaise, atypical measles, syncope, irritability, vasculitis, vomiting, diarrhea, thrombocytopenia, allergic reactions, arthralgia, convulsions, transverse myelitis, MIBE, pneumonitis, rhinitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, optic neuritis, epididymitis, orchitis.
Drug Interactions
May interfere w/ the expected immune response w/ immune globulins; defer vaccination for ≥3 mth following immune globulin (human) & blood/plasma transfusions.
